A $250 bike vs a $2300 bike I have the $250 G1 I currently cannot afford a $2300 bike So I get to ride now instead of just wishing I had the $2300 bike. Quality or options is irrelevant in that regard. I’ve been happy with my G1 and like it much better than I expected to. It’s been good to see that many people have been enjoying the G1 and other budget bikes and the upgrades that they may or may not make. Another RUclipsr got one, modified it a couple ways, decided it wasn’t for and returned it. Bought something else he liked better. “Gravel bike” is still a concept I have trouble wrapping my head around. Seems like a marketing term. Probably because the first time I heard it was from a salesman. Ride whatever works for you. No shade for $2300 or pricier bikes, there’s quite a few on my wish list. If I stop buying budget bikes, I could probably save up for one.🤪

Congratulations on you new bike!!! What a coincidence. 3 years ago, I purchased a $400 Walmart road bike to get some exercise. Although I was not very impressed with its performance, or comfort, it did the job. It also started to break allot after only a year of riding. Did some minor upgrades to it but I never got that "fast, in the wind" feel on it like when I was a kid. What I didn't count on was that this cheep $400 bike would pull me into riding so much. After weeks of research, this weekend I pulled the trigger on a Giant Revolt Advanced 2. I feel like that kid again on a fast bike. Irony is, I mocked people paying over a thousand $$ for a bicycle. I did not understand nor did I want to. Now I know, feel, and... I get it. I will be keeping the Walmart $400 bike not because I'm sentimental or have plans for it, but because there are dozens upon dozens of Walmart bikes like it on FB Marketplace and other for $50~$20. It is a cheap Walmart bike but its not worthless. I rather keep it as a backup then give it away for that kind of money.

In my opinion, you would probably have more fun using a full-sus or hardtail XC bike for a Gravel bike. Mount Gravel tires and cut the flatbar to around 25" wide. My Gravel bike is 110/120mm travel Specialized Epic Evo Comp (which I bought for 35% off) with 700x47 Specialized Pathfinder Pro tires and a 25" wide riser bar. I ride road, gravel, and up to blue singletrack on this bike. It rolls very fast on pavement and gravel while still being quite capable on easier singletrack and is extremely comfortable.

Great video! I can very much identify with your thoughts. My strategy with crashes like yours is to take it as a warning shot, evaluate the experience and adjust. Look not only at the moment of the crash, but the entire exercise, like driving up a hill with a car, rolling down on a bike and do this all over again. After a serious crash, this whole thing can appear pretty pointless. Take a gravel bike or electric MTB on manageable terrain, enjoy the landscape, leave your car at home.

In the space of higher end performance bikes, the frame and the components all come with warranty and if/when an issue arises, one can easily file a claim. Not so with bikes like this one from Walmart. I don’t “blame” Walmart necessarily because I expect issues to happen because they’re producing bikes that are affordable for casual riding, not performance based. I would bet that this bike will go up $80 - $100 within the year. Yes this is a good bike. This is an awesome bike for the 💰!

Been riding about 5 years and I only had bad crashes in the first year and since then I'm doing way steeper and rougher tracks. I feel I'm qualified to give advice to 1st year riders and it could be bad advice... 1) Lean way back and make sure the seat is lowered enough to get behind it even if it is slightly bumpy. 2) Consider wearing a dick protector or some sort for when something makes you come to a sudden stop and you are behind the seat. I've hurt my johnson twice when going slowly down something 45 degree sections and the bike comes to an unexpected stop on an obstacle but the body keeps going. 3) Falling off the back of the bike is much better. 4) Wear steel cap boots because although I have uprooted a boulder at high speed with my foot and didn't break anything, I have also gently tapped a rock/root and broken my toe. I still haven't gotten steel capped boots. 3) Wear gloves and brake using only index fingers because all other fingers are required to hold on firmly. I have 1 short lever and 1 long lever currently and I much prefer the short one because it's easier to finese. 4) Probably the most important thing no-one told me to begin with is that the front brake can be applied much harder than I thought. Practice just how hard you can pull the front brake 5) Always stand up on anything rough or at high speed on relatively level smooth ground, to lower the centre of gravity. 6). Put emphasis on leaning the bike when cornering. Not sure on proportions but it made a difference.

Friend of mine picked up one of these. Blown away with the value. I adjusted some things for him today and it's a nice bike.

I know this was 2 years back but just watching this now. About 6 months back I had a pretty bad fall coming out of a double tabletop followed by a hard left berm, I was carrying too much speed for my skill level and I instinctively braked way too hard while cornering, front wheel snapped sharply to the left breaking my right wrist and then on the fall I hit my head hard on a rock. I was unconscious for a few minutes and the rest was blurry until I got to the hospital. I've been riding again for a couple of months now but I have a much higher level of fear than I've ever had before, also my wrist is still pretty weak so taking it easy. Much respect for the message you've put out in your video, as you can imagine I have had similar thoughts recently.
